I love making cinnamon buns as a house warming to ourselves. We have done a lot of moving recently and we will continue to for the next month. This weekend we are moving out of one apartment, and in a couple of weeks we will be moving into the next. When I saw this recipe I immediately thought of the cinnamon buns I’ll be making when we are finally done with all the moving. Of course, I had to make sure that they were up to snuff, so I had a great excuse to make them.

I’ve always loved to read food blogs and that is what inspired me to start my own. The Smitten Kitchen was the first food blog that I started reading. Seeing her beautiful pictures and delicious recipes really pushed me to a whole other level of cooking. I found myself with dozens of tabs open, all of recipes I was dying to try. Even though we had perfectly good cupcakes waiting for us for dessert, I wanted something else. Crepes. Let me just tell you, if you are ever in this situation, be sensible eat the cupcake or just go to bed. You can make your crepes in the morning when you aren’t tired and when you are thinking properly.
Obviously, this is not what I did. Instead, I started to make crepes at 10pm, well aware of the fact that crepe batter must sit for at least an hour before you can use it. Apparently you must let the batter rest to get rid of the air bubbles so the crepe doesn’t fall apart when you flip it. I did try to speed up the process by popping the air bubbles with a toothpick to no avail. So there we were eating crepes at midnight. « Read the rest of this entry »

It’s Monday morning of finals week for Sam, and the ants have invaded, very unfortunate timing. They devoured our leftover baklava and everything else edible that was on our dining room table. I feel like I’m in Nicaragua again. So many ants. Back there we kept everything in the fridge: spices, pancake mix, flour, baking soda, pasta, you name it and it was in the fridge. Anything that would typically would be found in a pantry had to live in the fridge to avoid ant infestation. Only cans were immune to the ants.
I thought this was a perfectly normal practice until I came to the states. No flour in the refrigerator here. Silly me, but I easily got accustomed to leaving things out without fear. « Read the rest of this entry »
